The terms...I must admit I a bit at loss here, too.

The terms male and female are used to refer to both gender and biological sex. Merriam-Webster, for instance, defines male as

//a :a male person :a man or a boy
b :an individual of the sex that is typically capable of producing small, usually motile gametes (such as sperm or spermatozoa) which fertilize the eggs of a female//

"Assigned male at birth" will be interpreted as referring to biological sex by the doctor, I suppose, and biological sex AND social gender by friends and family.

I guess I could use man and woman as gender identifiers, but these words cannot be used as adjectives, and are as ambiguous as male/female as the sex/gender distinction goes. There is no reason to think that our respondents were unable to understand the different contexts.Jack Molayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03629363646482611722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2472400923228993687.post-69296765165364444152017-11-14T14:30:47.700-08:002017-11-14T14:30:47.700-08:00Male and female are gender terms. Start up sissy bars and clubs, house shares for cross-dressers, support groups for discussing transgender issues etc.

Hence support free inquiry, have a sense of humour, create a supportive sub-culture and don't wait till you've a divorced 40-year-old to suddenly come out of the closet.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2472400923228993687.post-77522051671509336602014-09-22T03:15:51.945-07:002014-09-22T03:15:51.945-07:00Jack and Sally you have received some very valuabl...Jack and Sally you have received some very valuable data that will take some time to digest but I am certain that this survey has much value in helping us understand the community of gender variant people and how they define themselves. This is a complex and deeply textured subject which has no black and white answers and I think the results will only emphasize that complexity all the more...joanna Santoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16722222181799879120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2472400923228993687.post-33098442507240103452014-09-21T18:24:22.600-07:002014-09-21T18:24:22.600-07:00Can we please use accurate nomenclature?
Gender id...Can we please use accurate nomenclature?
Gender identity is, by its very name, GENDER based. Please don't use "male" and "female" as its identifiers.Buddynoreply@blogger.com
