What are the best sources of transgender news and analysis, given that traditional media so often fails in its coverage of transgender issues? Here are some really good ones.
I have gradually over the years expanded my transgender news curation and coverage, having now several social media accounts and sites where I share transgender news.
For me there are five basic principles for selecting the headlines that apply. I would like to present:
- Transgender news and articles written by trans people for transpeople.
- Transgender news and articles from LGBTQ sites and LGBTQ friendly media.
- Relevant content from other media, to the extent it is helpful for trans people and allies trying to keep track of relevant developments.
- Trans and related queer news and articles from all over the English reading world, beyond the US and the UK. (I have still not found a simple solution to presenting content not written in the languages I know).
The challenge
The trans community is at present under constant attack from right wing extremists, religious fanatics and "gender critical" TERFs. They have turned their bigotry into a war, and in a war you need to know what the enemy is thinking, planning and doing.
I do understand the desire to boycott all sites that directly or indirectly cause harm to trans people, and I wholeheartedly support those that ignore them in order to protect their own mental health.
But activists and journalists sometimes need to read anti-trans content. You cannot win a war without knowing your enemy. I rarely link to such sources, though, and if I do, I mark them a such.
It also happens that newspapers and sites that are known for publishing transphobic content publish trans positive articles. If - let's say - The Guardian or The New York times do so, and the article is interesting or helpful, I might share such an article. But none of those publications will end up on this list of good transgender news resources, for sure.
The following overview includes links to media addressing an English reading audience. These are sites and sources I make use of when developing my own curated transgender news news feed.
Mainstream media
I have not found one mainstream media site or publication that is systematically supportive of trans lives, and who have a strict policy of unmasking transphobic hate and bigotry.
If you know of any, please add them in a comment below.

Missing a site?
If you know of a site that should be on this list, but which is not, add a comment.
(Due to pathological TERF trolling the comments are moderated and may not be published the same day as you post it, but do not worry, I will publish all helpful comments and add sites as soon as possible.)
Coming next: A discussion of how trans people and their allies can make positive transgender content available and visible online.
